This is a biggie. Earlier, when talking about the fact that there were two songs originally written that spurred us on to make an entire record about TheDarkWoods...that second song was Some Fires. This one also came fast. Even faster than Coyote or anything else. As I recall it, I had just moved into the house on Mission Road in Alhambra and it was now mine and Cotton's place...to do with it whatever we would. And what we did was set up a make-shift recording studio in what would eventually become Cotton's room, and then proceed to play all night long...landing on two guitar chords Cotton was playing and a line I'd written on the top of a notebook "We spoke in the trees alone". I quickly jotted down the rest of the lyrics and we played it. I remember standing up high on something, must have been a chair. I'm not sure why I was up there, but I vividly remember this. My memory is horrible, so this means something. I knew in that moment that we were making something next level. Well, at least "next level" for us. And it felt like the end of something... Which, to me, meant that we had better start.
lyrics
WE SPOKE IN
THE TREES ALONE AND
WE HELD ON
TO THE MORNING
'CAUSE IT'S ALL
WE HAVE
TO SAVE US
FROM THE COLD
BECAUSE DARKNESS
IT GROWLS LIKE A WOLF
AND DARKNESS
IT REMEMBERS LIKE A GHOST
AROUND HERE NO ONE
SAYS WHO THEY ARE
BECAUSE NO ONE
SAYS ANYTHING
YOUR SHADOW
IS ALL I SEE AGAIN
SOME FIRES
THEY BURN THROUGH EVERYTHING ELSE
SOME FIRES
THEY BURN THROUGH EVERYTHING ELSE
SOME FIRES
THEY BURN THROUGH EVERYTHING
SOME FIRES
THEY BURN THROUGH EVERYTHING
