This is a song that we had semi-written a while back. It was one that really made me feel like I was learning how to write effective lyrics. We needed something dark, yet upbeat. So, we turned to Bloodbrains. We liked it a lot and talked about giving it a big layered ending. I was on the couch...once again.... And I saw Cotton walkng in circles in the front yard, which believe it or not, was not abnormal at all. Dude is the LeBron of walk talking. But, this was different, he was walking feverishly and bringing his right hand up and down, up and down, up and down forcefully. He was counting and humming and chanting and counting. Not gonna lie...it was weird. I was weirded out. The neighbors already thought we were crazy, but this? Then he popped into the doorway, a bolt of energy, ripped off his headphones and proclaimed, "I think I've got it." And he did. This song would become our rallying cry as a whole. I remember playing live for the first time at the very first DarkWoods Show at Casey's. It was the second song, and I remember telling myself as we howled and chanted together that we could stand up to anyone. Whether anyone ever liked our freakshow or not, we could stand up on stage, stare them down, banshee scream Bloodbrains and beat them to submission ...or just march past them.
lyrics
A TREE IN MY MIND
ALONE IN THE DARK
HER TRUNK OPENS UP
A HINT OF A SPARK
OUT OF HER CHEST
A DESERT COVERED IN RED
BUT HER HEARTS STILL ALIVE
HER ROOTS HAVE BEEN BLED
THE INFECTIONS IN MY HEAD
RING ME OUT
AND WIPE YOURSELF DOWN
YOU ARE NEW
YOU ARE SAFE FROM THE HOUNDS
YOU'RE DREAMS THEY SEEM DARK
BUT, IT'S JUST 'CAUSE YOUR EYES ARE CLOSED
YOU'RE AWAKE NOW
YOUR PARENTS DON'T KNOW
RUN FAST NOW DOWN THAT ROAD
FIRE THROUGH THE FIELD
THE STARS WILL EXPLODE
WHEN YOU REACH THAT DOCK
WITH EVERY STEP YOU LOSE YOUR CLOTHES
YOUR SHOES THEY GO FIRST
NOW, OFF WITH YOUR HEAD
YOU FLY THROUGH THE AIR
YOU'RE SO FUCKING DEAD
THE INFECTIONS IN YOUR HEAD!
